WORCESTER, Mass. — Worcester is back at it with the snowplow naming contest, and this year, city kids are in the driver’s seat.
The Department of Public Works and Worcester Public Schools are teaming up again to let students from K-12 flex their creativity by naming four of the city’s snowplows for the 2025-2026 winter season. These aren’t just any trucks — they’re the machines that keep Worcester’s main roads clear when the city is buried in snow.
City Manager Eric D. Batista called the contest a “hit” last year, promising another round of fun and inventive entries. Superintendent Brian E. Allen said he expects the students to outdo themselves, building on the success of names like Scoop Dogg, Sleetwood Mac, William Scrapespeare, and Snow More Mr. Ice Guy.
Submissions are open from Monday, Nov. 3 through Wednesday, Nov. 26. After the public votes, four winning classrooms will get the ultimate bragging rights: a photo op with their named truck, DPW swag, and recognition at a future City Council meeting. Worcester students, get ready to leave your mark on the city’s winter streets — literally.
