WATERBURY, Conn. – Police are investigating a double homicide after two people were found shot to death inside a Waterbury home late Monday night, and a man believed to be connected to the killings was later arrested in Watertown.

Officers rushed to the 100 block of Beverly Avenue around 11 p.m. Monday after reports of gunfire. Inside the home, they found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not yet been released.

By Tuesday morning, the investigation stretched into neighboring Watertown. Around 6:50 a.m., police there responded to Lake Winnemaug Road near Sperry Road for a reported burglary. Officers arrested a man in his 20s near the Lake Winnemaug Boat Launch who they believe is tied to the Waterbury double homicide.

The suspect remains in Watertown police custody. Investigators said they believe he may have discarded several items — including a book bag, sneakers, and a white Ford Escape with Connecticut plate BR69909 — in the area.

Authorities believe the Ford Escape traveled through Watertown Road, Middlebury onto Middlebury Road, and possibly along Sand Bank Road, Bunker Hill Road, or nearby neighborhoods sometime between 5 p.m. Monday and 6:50 a.m. Tuesday.

Police are urging residents with security cameras to check for footage of the suspect or the vehicle. Anyone who finds discarded items is warned not to touch them and to call Watertown Police immediately.

The investigation remains active as detectives from Waterbury and Watertown work jointly to piece together the deadly chain of events.
