CAA Football dropped its Week 4 awards, and the spotlight belonged to wideouts who simply couldn’t be stopped.
Monmouth’s Josh Derry torched No. 11 Villanova for 177 yards and two touchdowns, opening the game with a 77-yard strike less than a minute in. The junior now leads the entire FCS with eight receiving TDs, going over 100 yards in every game this season.
Campbell’s Randall King matched him blow for blow. The sophomore tied a school record with four touchdowns on 142 receiving yards in a 50-48 double-OT thriller over Bryant. He hauled in a 77-yarder, a late 11-yarder, and a clutch 4th-down, game-tying TD in overtime, then added 57 yards on kickoff returns for good measure.
On the other side of the ball, Rhode Island’s Justin Carcel locked down LIU with two first-quarter picks and a drive-killing breakup, fueling a 28-7 Rams win. URI has now held back-to-back opponents to single digits for the first time in 35 years.
Special teams went wild thanks to Towson punter Bryce LaFollette, who pulled off two fake punts that turned into touchdowns in a narrow 31-28 loss to Youngstown State. He ran for 19 yards on one, threw a 14-yard strike on the other, and still averaged 40.7 yards per punt.
Finally, Monmouth freshman Chris Palmer Jr. seized his first big chance, racking up four tackles, a breakup, and a red-zone fumble recovery that stalled a Villanova drive in the Hawks’ statement win.
