A Bronx man was sentenced to seven and a half years behind bars for a reckless shooting that sent a stray bullet through an MTA bus, injuring two women, prosecutors said.
Bronx DA Darcel D. Clark announced that 47-year-old Anibal Colon was sentenced by Bronx Supreme Court Justice Timothy Lewis to seven and a half years in prison plus five years of post-release supervision after pleading guilty to Attempted Assault in the First Degree.
The July 1, 2023, shooting erupted around 3:20 p.m. on Union Avenue near East 156th Street. Colon allegedly fired nine shots from a 9 mm handgun at someone on the street. While he missed his intended target, a stray bullet smashed through the window of a passing MTA bus, striking a female passenger in the shoulder and causing life-altering injuries. Another woman on the bus suffered minor cuts from the shattered glass.
Colon was arrested on September 13, 2023. DA Clark said the sentence holds him accountable for his “callous actions” and hoped it brings some comfort to the victims.
