U.S. Africa Command said it carried out an airstrike against ISIS-Somalia fighters in coordination with the Somali government.
The strike took place in the Golis Mountains of Puntland, in northeastern Somalia, targeting the militant group’s ability to plan and launch attacks.
AFRICOM said the operation was part of ongoing efforts with Somali forces to “degrade ISIS-Somalia’s ability to plan and conduct attacks that threaten the U.S. homeland, our forces, and our citizens abroad.”
No details were immediately released about casualties or the size of the target.
