LANDOVER, MD – The Washington Commanders dominated the New York Giants, defeating them by a score of 21–6 in their season opener on Sunday, September 7, 2025, at Northwest Stadium. Washington starts the new NFL season 1–0, while the Giants dropped to 0–1.
Washington’s offense got off to a strong start, with quarterback Jayden Daniels throwing for 233 yards and a touchdown, plus showing off his dual-threat abilities with 68 rushing yards. Rookie running back Jacory Croskey-Merritt made an instant impact, rushing for 82 yards and scoring Washington’s second touchdown of the day. In his Washington debut, wide receiver Deebo Samuel, whom the Commanders acquired from a trade with San Francisco, also impressed—recording 77 receiving yards and a 19-yard rushing touchdown.
Washington’s defense was equally impressive, holding the Giants to no touchdowns. Veteran linebacker Bobby Wagner led the defense with 10 total tackles.
For the Giants, the outing was a rough debut for quarterback Russell Wilson. He completed 17 of 37 passes for 168 yards and added 44 rushing yards, but with no touchdowns. New York’s offense was repeatedly stopped multiple times in the red zone.
Washington’s newcomers led the charge—Samuel, Croskey-Merritt, and Daniels among them—and the team now sets its sights on a quick turnaround with a Week 2 matchup on the road against the Packers headlining Thursday Night Football.
