Manhattan prosecutors have indicted a 17-year-old for allegedly shooting three people in Times Square last month.
District Attorney Alvin L. Bragg, Jr., announced that Jayden Clarke, of the Bronx, faces multiple charges including three counts each of attempted murder in the second degree, attempted assault in the first degree, and assault in the second degree. Clarke is also charged with two counts of criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree and one count of criminal possession of a firearm.
According to court documents, the incident occurred just after 1 a.m. on August 9, 2025, at Raising Cane’s on West 44th Street and Broadway. Authorities said Clarke became involved in an argument with a man in the restaurant, then ran outside and allegedly fired three shots. One bullet struck a 19-year-old man in the leg, another hit a 65-year-old man in the knee as he stood with his family on the sidewalk, and a third grazed an 18-year-old woman sitting in a passing car. All three victims survived.
Clarke fled the scene but was quickly intercepted by a uniformed patrol officer on West 44th Street near Eighth Avenue. Police recovered a loaded firearm from his pants.
DA Bragg praised the response of NYPD officers from the Patrol Borough Manhattan South Precinct Times Square Unit and Midtown South Precinct, as well as detectives from the Midtown South Detective Squad.
The charges against Clarke carry serious penalties, reflecting the severity of firing a gun in a crowded area with heavy foot and vehicle traffic in Manhattan’s busiest tourist district.
