Boston College opened its 2025 football season with a commanding 66-10 win over Fordham on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Stadium, showcasing both offensive firepower and defensive dominance.
From the opening quarter, the Eagles set the tone behind quarterback Dylan Lonergan, who made his debut as the starter with poise and precision. With 8:37 left in the first, Lonergan connected with Jordan McDonald for his first touchdown pass of the season. Fordham briefly responded with a 46-yard field goal, but Lonergan answered by finding Jaedn Skeete for his second scoring toss of the quarter, giving BC a 14-3 lead. Skeete struck again late in the second quarter on a 26-second drill before halftime, pushing the advantage to 21-3.
The Eagles turned the game into a rout coming out of the break. On Fordham’s first possession of the second half, Daveon Crouch stepped in front of a pass and returned it for a touchdown, igniting a defensive surge. Lonergan added his fourth touchdown strike midway through the third quarter, hitting Reed Harris to stretch the margin. Turbo Richard capped the period with his first rushing score of the season, sending BC into the final frame ahead 45-3.
Boston College piled on in the fourth quarter with rushing touchdowns from Alex Broome and Bo MacCormack III before Fordham broke through for a late score from Gunnar Smith. With just over two minutes left, backup quarterback Grayson James delivered a highlight in his limited action, finding Dawson Pough for a 75-yard touchdown connection to finish the scoring at 66-10.
Lonergan’s debut was nearly flawless, completing 26 of 34 passes for 268 yards and four touchdowns. James added five completions for 190 yards and a touchdown in relief, giving BC fans a glimpse of the depth in the quarterback room. Wide receiver Lewis Bond was Lonergan’s top target, turning in a career-best performance with 11 receptions for 138 yards. Skeete finished with two touchdown grabs, while McDonald and Harris each hauled in one.
The defense was equally impressive, holding Fordham to just 166 total yards and limiting their running game to short gains throughout the afternoon. Crouch led the charge with six tackles, a sack, and the interception return touchdown that swung the momentum completely in BC’s favor.
The victory gave Boston College a strong 1-0 start under head coach Bill O’Brien, who emphasized discipline and execution throughout training camp. Saturday’s performance reflected that preparation, as the Eagles controlled the game in every phase. The offensive line provided steady protection, the passing attack was balanced across 11 different receivers, and the defense suffocated a Fordham offense that struggled to find any rhythm.
For Boston College, the blowout win is more than just a season-opening statement; it provides a foundation for what could be a season defined by balance, depth, and a renewed sense of identity under O’Brien’s leadership. The Eagles will look to build on the momentum as they move deeper into their nonconference schedule before Atlantic Coast Conference play begins.
