ARLINGTON, Texas — The Connecticut Sun broke out offensively on Wednesday night, defeating the Dallas Wings 101-95 on the road. The 101 points marked a season-high for Connecticut and the team’s first 100-point regular-season game since August 16, 2024, also against Dallas. With the victory, the Sun improved to 10-28 overall and moved to 1-2 against the Wings this season.
Rookie guard Leila Lacan once again led the way, tying her career-high with 22 points while adding three rebounds, six assists and four steals. It was her second straight game pacing Connecticut in scoring. Lacan, who has five games with at least four steals this year, surpassed 50 steals for her rookie season. She also joined Caitlin Clark, Tamika Catchings and Andrew Stinson as the only rookies in league history to post at least 22 points, six assists and four steals in a regular-season game.
Marina Mabrey contributed 18 points, four rebounds and two assists, shooting 4-of-11 from the field and converting 8-of-9 free throws. Veteran forward Tina Charles also finished with 18 points along with five rebounds, three assists and a block. Rookie duo Saniya Rivers and Aneesah Morrow each added 11 points, with Rivers knocking down a team-best 3-of-6 from beyond the arc and Morrow recording her sixth double-double of the season by pulling down 11 rebounds.
Connecticut started slowly, trailing 30-21 after the first quarter as Dallas shot 58 percent in the opening period. Lacan’s eight points, two rebounds, two assists and three steals kept the Sun within reach. The Wings built an 11-point lead early in the second quarter before the Sun responded with an 11-2 run, sparked by Mabrey, to close the gap. Connecticut closed the half strong, capped by a Mabrey heave from just past half court to take a 54-49 lead into the break.
The Sun’s 33 second-quarter points were their highest in a single quarter this season. Lacan had 15 points, five assists and three steals by halftime, while Charles and Mabrey each chipped in 12.
Connecticut extended its lead to double digits in the third quarter and carried an 83-70 advantage into the final frame. Dallas mounted a late rally, cutting the margin to two at 91-89 with 2:20 to play, but the Sun held firm down the stretch, hitting free throws and trading baskets to secure the six-point win.
Five Dallas players finished in double figures, led by rookie guard Aziaha James, who scored 22 points to go with five rebounds and six assists. Myisha Hines-Allen added 18 points and seven rebounds off the bench in 22 minutes.
Dallas dominated the paint with 60 points compared to Connecticut’s 38, and also held advantages in second-chance points (9-7) and fast-break points (22-16).
The Sun shot 47.8 percent from the floor, including 38.1 percent from deep, and knocked down a season-high 27 free throws on 29 attempts for 93.1 percent. The Wings dropped to 9-30 on the year with the loss.
