In Chicago, Mayor Brandon Johnson is resisting President Donald Trump’s threat to deploy the National Guard to the city to combat crime. Johnson said his administration is reviewing legal options to stop federal troops from being stationed in Chicago. Trump, who previously sent Guard units to Washington, D.C., has said Chicago and New York could be next. Supporters argue the move is aimed at reducing crime, while critics call it a political stunt.
In New York City, Mingus Reedus, the 25-year-old son of “Walking Dead” actor Norman Reedus, was arrested following an alleged assault in a Manhattan apartment. Reedus pleaded not guilty to five charges, including third-degree assault and aggravated harassment, according to court records. He was released pending his next court appearance.
A high school football game in Mayfield, Kentucky, ended in chaos Friday night when a 14-year-old boy allegedly opened fire near the stadium during the fourth quarter of the annual “Battle of the Birds” matchup between Mayfield and Graves County high schools. Players and fans ran for cover, but no one was reported injured. Police said the teenager is facing multiple charges.
