On Monday, August 18, 2025, Boston Police officers made several arrests related to firearms in Dorchester and Roxbury following separate incidents involving ShotSpotter activations and suspicious activity.

In Dorchester, officers assigned to District C-11 arrested 21-year-old Roger Estrada of Hyde Park after a pursuit in the Fields Corner neighborhood. At approximately 2:48 a.m., officers attempted to stop a red dirt bike linked to a ShotSpotter activation at 116 Talbot Avenue. Both the driver and passenger fell from the bike near Quincy and Clarkson streets and fled. Officers located Estrada hiding under a vehicle on Barry Park. Estrada sustained a non-life-threatening gunshot wound and was transported to a local hospital.

During the investigation, detectives recovered a gray backpack near Adams and Robinson streets containing a black Glock handgun with an extended magazine, a firearm “switch” allowing automatic fire, and an obliterated serial number. The backpack also contained a credit card in Estrada’s name and a pill bottle with three white pills believed to be Oxycodone. Estrada was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court on charges including unlawful possession of a firearm, possession of a machine gun, possession of a large-capacity feeding device, possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number, unlawful possession of ammunition, and possession of a Class B substance.

Later the same day in Roxbury, officers assigned to District B-2 responded to a ShotSpotter activation near 11 Balfour Street at approximately 10:30 p.m. Officers recovered multiple pieces of ballistic evidence in the area and located a black .223 caliber rifle inside a duffle bag on the front landing of 9 Balfour Street. Additional ballistic damage was observed on a vehicle on Howard Avenue, at 28 Cunningham Street, and a basketball hoop nearby. Detectives are actively investigating and are asking anyone with information to contact District B-2 Detectives at (617) 343-4275 or submit anonymous tips through CrimeStoppers.

Earlier in Roxbury, officers arrested 18-year-old Jamel Abreu of Roxbury on multiple firearm-related charges. Around 5:10 p.m., officers on patrol observed a vehicle blocking an intersection at Dale and Sherman streets. Upon making contact, officers noted a large bulge in the front passenger’s waistband consistent with a firearm. A pat frisk revealed a Geisler semi-automatic handgun with no serial number and a 17-round magazine. Abreu was arrested and is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on charges including carrying a firearm without a license, possession of ammunition without an FID card, carrying a loaded firearm without a license, and possession of a large-capacity firearm.

Authorities emphasized that community members with information related to these incidents are urged to come forward, either directly or anonymously, to assist with the ongoing investigations.
