The New York Red Bulls (9-10-6, 33 pts.) dropped a hard-fought 1-0 decision to Chicago Fire FC (10-9-6, 35 pts.) on Saturday night at Soldier Field. The match’s lone goal came in the 44th minute after Chicago forward Hugo Cuypers crossed a ball that deflected off New York defender Alexander Hack’s hand in the box. Cuypers stepped up and buried the resulting penalty kick into the bottom left corner.

Rafael Mosquera made his MLS debut for New York, coming on as a substitute in the 81st minute. Goalkeeper Carlos Coronel recorded five saves, tying his third-highest total in a single match this season.

Following the loss, the Red Bulls return to Sports Illustrated Stadium to host Liga MX side Chivas de Guadalajara in Leagues Cup action on Thursday, July 31. Kickoff is set for 7:30 p.m.

At Fenway Park, the Red Sox continued their summer surge with a 4-2 victory over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Saturday night. Boston has now won two of its last three games and 13 of its last 18 overall. The team is 8-1 in its last nine home games and 17-5 over its last 22, its best home stretch since 2018. Boston improved to 41-17 all-time in their yellow alternate jerseys.

Pitchers have posted a 2.77 ERA in July, with starters going 10-4 and registering quality starts in nine of their last 14 games. The Sox tied a season-high by striking out 15 batters, their first time reaching that mark at home since July 2024.

Garrett Crochet went six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits while striking out 10. After giving up two solo home runs in the first inning, Crochet settled in and held the Dodgers scoreless over the next five frames. It marked his 14th quality start and extended his win streak to eight decisions, the longest by a Red Sox starter since 2022. With 175 strikeouts and a 2.23 ERA across 141.1 innings, Crochet now leads all of MLB in both strikeouts and innings pitched. He also tied for the league lead in wins with 12.

Jarren Duran sparked Boston’s offense, going 3-for-4 with a double, two triples, and two RBIs. He tied the game with a two-run triple in the second and later added another triple in the sixth and a double in the eighth, marking his first career multi-triple game. Roman Anthony reached base four times, finishing 2-for-2 with an RBI double and two walks. Since July 4, he’s batting .339 with a .961 OPS. Alex Bregman also had a strong night, going 3-for-4 with three singles, his seventh game of the season with three or more hits.

For the Dodgers, Shohei Ohtani launched his NL-leading 38th home run to lead off the game, his 22nd career leadoff homer and 10th of the season. He’s now homered in six of his last seven games. Teoscar Hernández added a solo home run, his second in as many games. Clayton Kershaw took the loss after allowing four runs in 4.2 innings in his first career regular season start at Fenway Park.

The Yankees fell to the Phillies 9-4 in the Bronx, dropping their third straight game. Marcus Stroman took the loss after surrendering four earned runs in 3.2 innings, his shortest outing since June.

Giancarlo Stanton hit his seventh home run of the season with a two-run shot in the seventh inning, his 436th career homer, passing Carlos Beltrán for 47th all-time. Stanton has now gone deep six times in his last 12 games. Jasson Domínguez and Anthony Volpe each added RBI singles, while Trent Grisham reached base three times. Jazz Chisholm Jr. extended his strong run at the plate, recording his second consecutive multi-hit game.

Philadelphia secured the series win with the victory and improved to 16-3 in their last 19 games against AL East opponents. Ranger Suárez earned his eighth win of the season after allowing one run and striking out eight over 5.2 innings. He’s allowed three or fewer runs in all eight of his road starts this year and boasts a 1.48 ERA away from home.

Bryce Harper hit his 15th homer of the year and added his 150th career stolen base. He’s batting .347 with 15 extra-base hits in his last 12 games. Edmundo Sosa also homered with a two-run blast in the seventh inning, the hardest-hit homer of his career at 110.6 mph. JT Realmuto drove in a run and has hit safely in 12 of his last 13 games. Trea Turner continued his hot streak with a pair of doubles and two RBIs, his fourth straight multi-hit game. Kyle Schwarber added a two-run double in the seventh inning and now has 84 RBIs on the season. Johan Rojas capped the scoring with a bases-loaded walk.
