NEW HAVEN, Conn. — A Jamaican national residing in New Haven has been charged with illegally reentering the United States after being deported, according to federal authorities.
Dwayne Claud Singh, 37, was arrested on July 23, 2025, and appeared the same day before U.S. Magistrate Judge Robert M. Spector in New Haven. He was ordered detained pending a hearing scheduled for July 28.
According to court documents and statements made during the proceedings, Singh was previously convicted in 2014 in Connecticut Superior Court on drug, weapon, and forgery charges and sentenced to five years in prison. In December 2017, he was ordered removed by the U.S. Immigration Court in Hartford and was deported to Jamaica in January 2018.
Authorities allege that Singh later reentered the U.S. illegally and had been using Connecticut and California identification documents under the alias “Kevin Anthony Smith.” He also reportedly maintained a Facebook account under the name “Poochie Gully.” Additionally, Singh is wanted on an active state arrest warrant issued by Connecticut Superior Court in March 2023 for breach of peace and threatening offenses.
If convicted of unlawful reentry, Singh faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
