Fairfield, Maine — The Maine Department of Transportation (MaineDOT) will begin a long-term infrastructure project along Interstate 95 near Fairfield starting Monday, August 4. The work includes bridge deck replacements and road lowering along a three-mile stretch of the highway between mile markers 148 and 151.
The project will replace bridge decks on both the northbound and southbound lanes over Webb Road and Somerset Avenue. Work on Somerset Avenue is scheduled to begin on August 4, while construction to lower the interstate between Somerset Avenue and Webb Road will begin after Labor Day.
Drivers traveling through the area should expect alternating single-lane traffic at times as crews perform staged construction behind barriers. Portions of Somerset Avenue and Webb Road will also be lowered as part of the project.
The construction is being carried out by NorthEast Paving of Eurovia Atlantic Coast, LLC, based in Bangor. The project contract is valued at $10,545,989. MaineDOT estimates the work will be completed by June 2028.
Motorists are advised to watch for signage and be prepared for traffic pattern changes throughout the duration of the project.
