On June 6th, at around 12:35 a.m., in the 500 block of Thorn St in Camden, NJ. 16-year-old Xyere Brooks, the standout Wide Receiver from KIPP High School, was shot and killed Friday afternoon.
First Responders responded and rushed Brooks to Cooper Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Xyere was at his friend’s house along with others when the shooting took place.
Over the weekend, the community gathered at Wiggins Waterfront Park to honor his life and call for an end on gun violence. A youth speaker at the event voiced the frustration many young people feel today ” Mass shootings have become old news. How can we stay silent while people around us die every day from a uniquely American crisis.”
Camden Police Department says there have been no aresst and this is still and on going investigation.
