A deputy from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department was critically injured in a shooting incident on Saturday evening in Lancaster, California, confirmed by department officials. The unsettling event transpired in the 1200 block of Meadow View Circle, near the intersection of Avenue J-12 and 10th Street West, around 7:25 p.m. This information was provided by officials from the Los Angeles County Fire Department.

Immediately following the shooting, the injured deputy was transported to a local hospital for treatment. As of the latest reports, he remains in critical but stable condition, with law enforcement officials indicating that further updates regarding his recovery will be released in the days ahead.

In a tragic turn of events, a suspect involved in the incident was also shot and was pronounced dead at the scene. The identity of the deceased suspect has not yet been released, as authorities await the notification of next of kin and continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the shooting.

According to officials from the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department (LASD), deputies were originally dispatched to the area in response to reports of a robbery that had occurred approximately 18 minutes earlier, at around 7:07 p.m. The chain of events leading to the shooting is now under investigation.

In a separate incident, a Chicago police officer was unintentionally shot and killed by her partner during a tense chase of a suspect into an apartment complex, where they encountered another individual armed with a rifle. The officer, identified as Krystal Rivera, 36, was a four-year veteran of the police force and leaves behind a 10-year-old daughter.

Officer Rivera succumbed to her injuries at a local hospital late Thursday evening, less than an hour after the shooting.

The individual who allegedly brandished the rifle during the incident has been taken into custody, although police have not disclosed the specific charges that may be filed against them.

In another development, Los Angeles Police Chief Jim McDonnell and department leaders held a press conference on Sunday night to address the escalating tensions between law enforcement and anti-ICE protesters in downtown Los Angeles.

Officials reported that since the protests began on Saturday, LAPD officers had made at least 39 arrests, while the California Highway Patrol arrested 17 more individuals on Sunday after protesters breached the 101 Freeway that afternoon. Among the arrested, one individual was charged with allegedly throwing a Molotov cocktail at an officer.

In Denver, Police reported a close call for one of their officers on Sunday. A suspect crashed a vehicle near the intersection of Colfax Avenue and Osage Street around 3:46 p.m. Upon arrival at the crash site, officers discovered an unresponsive person inside a white GMC Yukon. As an officer entered the vehicle to turn off the ignition and render aid to the driver, the driver unexpectedly regained consciousness and attempted to flee the scene, putting the officer’s safety at risk.
