As the Trump administration intensifies its response to widespread protests following a series of immigration raids across Los Angeles, federal law enforcement officers turned out in substantial numbers to disperse demonstrators in downtown Los Angeles on Saturday afternoon.

The protests escalated after clashes erupted earlier that day outside a Home Depot store in Paramount, where protesters voiced their opposition to federal immigration policies.

As the morning progressed, a large crowd began to assemble in front of the Metropolitan Detention Center, which currently houses a significant population of undocumented immigrants being detained by federal authorities.

As the crowd swelled, dozens of federal police officers emerged from the detention facility, employing pepper balls and flash grenades to aggressively push back the protesters and restore order. Their actions were met with shouts and chants from the assembled crowd, demanding justice and the fair treatment of immigrants.

By nightfall, the Los Angeles Police Department declared the gathering an unlawful assembly, prompting officers to clear protesters from the streets in the area of Alameda Street, between Aliso and Temple streets. The police formed a coordinated line, pressing forward in unison as they clashed with demonstrators who were urged to disperse within a five-minute window.

In response to the escalating situation, the National Guard was mobilized, with plans for additional troops on standby in case further confrontations erupted between protesters and law enforcement.
