With a powerful, fluid swing, Story sent a soaring solo homer 394 feet into the night sky, clocking in at an impressive 102.2 mph. His hit ignited a spark within the Red Sox, propelling the team into an invigorated offensive display.

This young 22-year-old showcased his talent earlier in the year, debuting as Boston’s Opening Day starter against the Texas Rangers on March 27. In that game, he allowed only two earned runs over five innings, posting two walks and four strikeouts in a triumphant 5-2 victory. Acquired from the Chicago White Sox on December 11, 2024, in exchange for four minor league players, Crochet has crafted an impressive career thus far, boasting a 3.29 ERA (82 ER/224.0 IP) and an impressive 298 strikeouts across 105 games—33 of which were starts in both the White Sox (2020-24) and Red Sox (2025).
A former American League Comeback Player of the Year and an All-Star in 2024, Crochet made 32 starts that season, posting a solid 3.58 ERA (58 ER/146.0 IP) along with 209 strikeouts and a remarkable 1.07 WHIP. Among pitchers with at least 30 starts, he excelled, leading in strikeout rate (35.1%) and strikeouts per 9.0 innings (12.88), while standing second in FIP (2.69) and third in strikeout-to-walk ratio (6.33).
Drafted by the White Sox in the first round of the 2020 First-Year Player Draft as the 11th overall pick, Crochet made headlines by joining the exclusive club of pitchers who have debuted in their draft year—a remarkable feat last accomplished by Brandon Finnegan in 2014. He quickly secured a spot on his first Opening Day roster, initially pitching in relief before making his first career start on Opening Day in 2024. At just 22 years old, Campbell made his MLB debut on March 27 against the Texas Rangers, achieving a historic milestone as the youngest Opening Day starter at second base for the Red Sox since Reggie Smith in 1967. Campbell’s double in the second inning of Wednesday night’s game marked a significant milestone, making him the fifth player in Boston franchise history to reach base safely in each of their first six career games at the age of 22 or younger, joining the ranks of baseball legends like Rafael Devers.
