The WooSox Foundation is set to host the fifth annual Rich Gedman Golf Tournament on Monday, May 12, at the Haven Country Club in Boylston, Massachusetts, with support from the Hanover Insurance Group, Inc. This event honors the legacy of Rich Gedman, a Worcester native and former Major League Baseball catcher known for his tenure with the Boston Red Sox from 1980 to 1990. Gedman, a two-time American League All-Star, also played for the Houston Astros and St. Louis Cardinals during his career.
In addition to his impressive playing record, Gedman managed the Worcester Tornadoes to a championship and served as a hitting advisor for the Boston Red Sox. He achieved several notable milestones during his career, including setting AL records for putouts in a game and driving in seven runs in a single game. He was also a key player in the historic Game 5 of the 1986 American League Championship Series.
The golf tournament invites participation from Boston Red Sox and Worcester Red Sox alumni and fans can register online. Foursomes can join for $1,500 and registration includes a range of perks like green fees, meals, complimentary drinks, and WooSox merchandise. The day will kick off at 10 a.m. with lunch and a shotgun start, culminating in a dinner reception with a Celebrity Long Drive competition.
Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the WooSox Foundation, which focuses on making a positive impact in the community through various initiatives in education, social justice, cancer support, and more, while also expanding its outreach to mental health, veterans, frontline heroes, pets, and the arts.
