WPI men’s and women’s diving opened competition at the 2025 NCAA Division III Region 3 Championships in Springfield on Friday.

For the women’s program, Katrina Yurista from Laramie, WY, represented WPI as the sole competitor. In the highly competitive 1-meter championship event, Yurista put forth a commendable performance, finishing in 22nd place with a total score of 376.10 points. She narrowly missed breaking into the top-20 by just 2.95 points, showcasing her potential and determination. The event was fiercely contested, with Sydney Bluestein of Amherst earning the championship title with an impressive score of 469.70 points, highlighting the standard of competition at this level.

On the men’s side, the team’s divers faced strong competition in the 3-meter championship. Val Corrente from East Setauket, NY, and Tom Fitzgerald from East Longmeadow, MA, both delivered solid efforts, finishing 13th and 14th respectively. Corrente scored 308.40 points, while Fitzgerald closely followed with a score of 305.20 points. The event saw Haochen Liu of Williams dominate, claiming the crown with an outstanding performance totaling 517.10 points on the opening night.

The trio of WPI divers will return to the boards tomorrow with renewed focus and determination, as Yurista prepares to compete in the 3-meter dive event while Corrente and Fitzgerald gear up for the 1-meter board. Their competition is scheduled to start at 12 PM, and as they continue their pursuit of excellence, fans and teammates alike are eager to support them in the upcoming rounds.
