On a brisk Monday afternoon in Washington, D.C., President Donald Trump was ceremoniously sworn in as the 47th President of the United States. The biting cold temperatures outside necessitated a change in venue for the traditional swearing-in ceremony; it was held inside the grandeur of the Capitol Rotunda. In a formal and historic moment, Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts administered the oath of office to President Trump, while Vice President JD Vance was sworn in by Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh.
The day commenced with a solemn church service at St. John’s Episcopal Church. Following the service, President Trump and Vice President Vance had tea with former President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden at the White House, fostering an atmosphere of political tradition. Afterward, Trump shared the iconic ride to the Capitol with the 46th president, marking a significant transition in leadership.
Distinguished guests in attendance at the swearing-in ceremony included former Presidents Joe Biden, Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Bill Clinton, as well as former Vice Presidents Kamala Harris and Mike Pence. The ceremony was also graced by members of Congress, all nine Supreme Court justices, and the immediate family members of both President Trump and Vice President Vance.
The theme of this year’s inauguration was “Our Enduring Democracy: A Constitutional Promise,” reflecting on the principles that underpin American governance.
In his inaugural address, President Trump expressed profound gratitude to Black and Latino voters for their crucial support in his election. He poignantly acknowledged the observance of Martin Luther King Jr.’s birthday, stating, “we will strive together to make his dream a reality. We will make his dream come true.” This resonant message aimed to unify the nation and inspire hope.
The ceremony featured musical performances that added to the celebratory atmosphere. Country music star Carrie Underwood sang a stirring rendition of “America the Beautiful,” while Christopher Macchio captivated the audience with “Oh, America!” and the national anthem.
In his address, President Trump outlined a bold agenda, beginning with a declaration of a “national emergency at our southern border.” He indicated that troops would be deployed to assist with border security. Additionally, he announced the reinstatement of service members who had been discharged due to COVID-19 vaccine mandates, promising full back pay for their sacrifices.
Reflecting on the state of the nation, President Trump painted a dual picture: one of optimism and potential greatness, juxtaposed with a narrative of suffering over the past four years. He articulated a vision of restoring the United States to a “golden age,” one that would be respected globally, emphasizing the need for safety and security. He also called for an end to what he described as the “vicious, violent, and unfair weaponization” of the Justice Department.
Trump’s agenda included a commitment to dismantle government policies perceived as attempts to socially engineer race and gender dynamics in various sectors. He vowed to create a merit-based, colorblind society, asserting, “as of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the United States government that there are only two genders: male and female.”
Following the swearing-in ceremony, President Trump and Vice President Vance escorted Joe and Jill Biden to a waiting Marine One, which whisked the former president and first lady away to Joint Base Andrews—a final salute to their tenure in office.
Back inside the Capitol, President Trump and Vice President Vance addressed a gathering of supporters in Emancipation Hall. Vice President Vance was the first to speak, followed by Trump, who rallied his audience with promises of action and reforms.
As the day progressed, both President Trump and Vice President Vance made their way to a Congressional luncheon held in National Statuary Hall.
In the upcoming days and weeks, President Trump is gearing up to immerse himself in a comprehensive array of ambitious campaign promises and pivotal initiatives that resonate with his core support base. One of his paramount pledges is to take robust and decisive action aimed at securing the nation’s borders while reinforcing the safety and stability of American communities.
With a focus on border security, President Trump plans to initiate sweeping reforms to end what he terms “Biden’s catch-and-release policies.” His strategy may include reinstating the Remain in Mexico policy, constructing a formidable wall along the southern border, and eliminating asylum for those who cross the border illegally. Additionally, he intends to crack down on jurisdictions that offer sanctuary to criminals and enhance the vetting and screening processes for individuals entering the country.
To address the alarming surge in border crossings attributed to criminal aliens during the previous administration, President Trump is announcing a comprehensive deportation operation. This initiative aims to restore order and uphold the rule of law.
Concurrently, the President plans to suspend refugee resettlement programs. This decision is made in light of reports that certain communities are struggling to accommodate an overwhelming influx of migrants, which is straining local safety and available resources.
In a bid to further bolster border security—which he asserts is a critical aspect of national security—President Trump intends to deploy the Armed Forces, including the National Guard, to assist law enforcement agencies currently stationed at the border.
A significant component of his agenda will be the designation of various cartels, including the notorious Tren de Aragua, as foreign terrorist organizations. Utilizing the decades-old Alien Enemies Act, he plans to take bold measures for their removal from American soil.
The Department of Justice under President Trump’s administration will pursue the death penalty as a fitting punishment for egregious crimes against humanity. This includes those acts committed against law enforcement officers and individuals whose heinous actions result in severe harm or fatalities among American citizens.
In the area of energy policy, President Trump is set to launch a series of initiatives aimed at revitalizing the American energy sector. His administration will seek to terminate Biden’s so-called policies of climate extremism, streamline the permitting process for energy projects, and review regulations that burden energy production—spanning everything from the mining to the processing of essential non-fuel minerals.
He aims to empower consumer choice across various sectors, positively affecting everyday items such as vehicles, plumbing fixtures, lighting, and appliances. As a bold move, President Trump will declare a national energy emergency and mobilize all available resources to construct critical energy infrastructure. His energy policies will also phase out leases for expansive wind farms that undermine the beauty of the American landscape and fail to meet the needs of energy consumers.
In a definitive act, President Trump will withdraw the United States from the Paris Climate Accord and direct all government agencies to implement emergency measures aimed at alleviating the cost of living for American families.
Moreover, he will introduce the America First Trade Policy, ensuring that American businesses are no longer subject to punitive national tax policies dictated by foreign entities.
The President envisions ushering in a “Golden Age” for America by reforming and streamlining government bureaucracy to better serve the American populace. He plans to impose a freeze on bureaucrat hiring—excluding essential roles—to combat what he sees as an influx of ineffective and overly compensated Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) practitioners infiltrating the federal government. Additionally, he intends to pause the implementation of any burdensome regulations introduced by the Biden administration that are not yet in effect.
In a historic move, President Trump is preparing an unprecedented array of executive orders aimed at rescinding excessive regulations. He is also committed to enhancing accountability among government bureaucrats, insisting that the American public deserves top-notch service from devoted public servants. Furthermore, he aims to bring federal workers back to in-person work, currently a stark contrast to the mere 6% of employees who physically attend.
Additionally, President Trump is determined to swiftly put an end to what he perceives as the weaponization of government against political opponents. He will order strict adherence to document retention laws and dismantle unconstitutional censorship efforts by federal agencies. Under his administration, the era of government-induced suppression of truthful discourse will come to an end.
Finally, President Trump will take a firm stance on gender issues, asserting the biological realities of male and female, while advocating for the protection of women against what he identifies as radical gender ideologies.
