A New York City man has been sentenced to 20 years in state prison for raping a woman in Manhattan in March 2023.
Jamel Mciver was sentenced Friday in New York State Supreme Court to 20 years in state prison. In October, Mciver pleaded guilty to one count of Rape in the first degree.
The victim was just after 1:00 AM returning home after a night out when Mciver followed her while she was walking into an elevator in her apartment building near West 64th Street and Amsterdam Avenue.
Mciver threatened the woman and pulled her into a stairwell where he sexually assaulted and raped her. He continued threatening her during the sexual assault. He then pulled the woman down multiple staircases and eventually outside the building, where he threatened her a final time before letting her go and fleeing the scene.
