Just 16 days remain until the highly anticipated third annual WooSox Foundation Honors Gala, which will take place at Polar Park in Worcester on December 7. On Thursday, the WooSox announced that the young and talented Triston Casas would make his appearance, marking him as the first current player from the Boston Red Sox to join this prestigious event.
Triston Casas quickly became a favorite among the WooSox fanbase during his time with the team in 2022. Over the course of 72 games, he showcased his skills by batting .273 and achieving impressive statistics that included 20 doubles, 11 home runs, 38 RBIs, and 45 runs. His debut at Polar Park occurred on September 22, 2021, where he made an immediate impact by hitting a remarkable 352-foot home run to tie the game during his second at-bat.
Casas demonstrated a rapid ascent through the Red Sox farm system, ultimately making his Major League Baseball debut on September 4, 2022, in a game where the Red Sox emerged victorious against the Texas Rangers with a score of 5-2. Just two days later, he celebrated another milestone by hitting his first career home run off J.T. Chargois of the Tampa Bay Rays. His accomplishments in 2023 were particularly noteworthy, as he earned the distinction of being the youngest first baseman to start on Opening Day for the Red Sox since George Scott in 1967. Over his tenure with the team, which includes 222 games, Casas has maintained a batting average of .250, hitting 42 home runs and driving in 109 RBIs. Among his achievements, he also finished third in the voting for the 2023 American League Rookie of the Year, after a standout season where he batted .263 with 24 home runs and 65 RBIs across 132 games.
At the gala, Casas will join a distinguished group of franchise legends, including renowned announcer Joe Castiglione, former catcher Rich Gedman, and commentator Tom Caron. Additionally, various community and business leaders, as well as dedicated WooSox fans, are invited to participate in this evening of celebration. It is important to note that the WooSox have indicated that there are only a limited number of tables remaining for this special occasion.
The gala will begin with doors opening at 5 p.m., and for the convenience of attendees, complimentary valet parking will be provided on Washington Street adjacent to the ballpark’s Gate C entrance.
