On November 6, 2024, Connecticut State Police arrested two individuals, Joseph T. Walker, 34, and Jada Disire Williams, 24, both from Worcester, Massachusetts, in connection with a series of criminal offenses. The charges they face include Possession of Burglar Tools, Criminal Mischief in the 2nd Degree, Larceny in the 4th Degree, and Identity Theft in the 3rd Degree.
The incident unfolded early that Wednesday morning at approximately 2:47 AM when Connecticut State Police Troopers received reports from local residents about a male and female suspected of breaking into vehicles in the neighborhood. Witnesses described the suspects as driving a dark-colored SUV, which was seen leaving the vicinity of Warren Circle in Mansfield, Connecticut.
Upon receiving this information, a Trooper responding to the call entered the cul-de-sac of Warren Circle. There, the Trooper spotted a dark-colored Volkswagen SUV with Massachusetts license plates, occupied by two individuals, departing from the area. Prompted by suspicion, the Trooper turned around, positioned their cruiser behind the vehicle, and activated the emergency lights and siren to initiate a traffic stop for further investigation.
The operator of the vehicle, identified as Joseph T. Walker, complied and pulled over on Route 275, near Westwood Road. As the Trooper approached the SUV, they made contact with both Walker and Williams, who was seated in the passenger seat. When questioned about their presence in the area, both suspects claimed to be unfamiliar with the location and said they were trying to get directions. They also mentioned that a family member of Williams lived nearby and that they were en route back to Worcester.
During their interaction, the Trooper observed a large pickaxe in the back seat of the SUV, alongside various jackets and two purses—one located in the back seat and another in the front passenger area. Meanwhile, another Trooper who had responded to the initial call was canvassing the area and discovered a Honda Accord with a smashed window, indicating it had been rummaged through.
Further investigation revealed that both Walker and Williams had been recognized from a previous larceny investigation that occurred in Tolland the week before. They matched the descriptions of two suspects involved in the theft of a purse from a vehicle, with a credit card stolen from that purse subsequently used for unauthorized purchases at a local gas station in Tolland.
Given the circumstances, the Trooper instructed both Walker and Williams to exit the vehicle, and they were placed under detention in handcuffs as the investigation proceeded. The Trooper established probable cause to search the vehicle, resulting in the discovery of multiple purses containing identification cards that did not belong to either suspect. At this juncture, both Walker and Williams were officially informed of their arrest.
A search conducted incident to Walker’s arrest revealed that he was in possession of the stolen credit card linked to the Tolland incident. Connecticut State Police further reported that a witness—who had initially called 911—observed the events unfold while working at a nearby facility. This witness noted seeing the dark-colored SUV driving erratically through the cul-de-sac and parking on the road. After hearing a loud noise, the witness looked out to see a male and female rummaging through a Honda Accord belonging to a coworker. After notifying the coworker about the break-in, she quickly returned to the window, only to see the suspects driving away and immediately phoned the authorities to report the situation. The owner of the Honda later provided law enforcement with a list of the items that were missing from her vehicle.
As of this report, Connecticut State Police indicated that the larceny incident in Tolland is still under investigation.
