The University of Rhode Island had an exhilarating start to their 2024 season Saturday, securing an impressive 20-17 victory. The game’s defining moment came with only 19 seconds left on the clock when Devin Farrell’s 31-yard touchdown pass to Shawn Harris sealed their dramatic win. The winning drive showcased Farrell’s skill and composure as he converted crucial downs and made precise passes to steer his team to victory.

In his debut start, Devin Farrell delivered an outstanding performance, completing 20 of 33 passes for 287 yards and two touchdowns. His impact extended beyond passing, as he also showcased his running ability, accumulating 55 rushing yards for a total of 342 offensive yards.

The Rhode Island wide receiver corps demonstrated their prowess, tallying 17 receptions for 250 yards and two touchdowns. Greg Gaines III stood out with five catches for 70 yards, while Tommy Smith made his mark with five receptions for 47 yards and his first career touchdown. Marquis Buchanan secured four catches for 88 yards, and Shawn Harris, Jr. contributed three catches for 45 yards, including the game-winning touchdown.

The Rams’ defensive unit delivered an outstanding performance, limiting Holy Cross to just 101 passing yards and stifling their third-down conversion rate to 3-for-11.

Looking ahead, the Rams will embark on their first road game of the season against Minnesota on Saturday, September 7. The highly anticipated matchup against the Golden Gophers is scheduled to kick off at 12 p.m. EST.
