The Boston Bruins went back up to Toronto to play the Maple Leafs in Game 6 as they failed to end the series when they allowed the game-winning goal by the Maple Leafs in Game 5 in the 2-1 overtime loss.
The Bruins started Jeremy Swayman in net for the fourth straight game where he made 24 saves on 26 shots on net from the Maple Leafs. Meanwhile, for the Maple Leafs side, it was Joseph Woll, who made 22 saves on 23 shots from the Bruins.
Auston Matthews was out for the second straight game for the Maple Leafs after not participating in the morning skate with Toronto, his injury is still undisclosed as of this moment.
There was no scoring until under a minute left in the second period when William Nylander scored his first goal of the playoffs near the right faceoff circle in the Bruins defensive zone, and got the puck past two Bruins defenders to score that goal. The Maple Leafs outshot the Bruins 12-1 in the first period, but did not score.
The Bruins tried everything they could to (at the very least) tie the game up at 1 in the third, but they could not get past Woll, and they could not make good shots on goal.
Nylander also scored in the third period from a breakaway goal off a feed from Matthew Knies in the neutral zone, as he did a deke on Swayman to seal the game with 2:13 left in the game.
Morgan Geekie did stop the Maple Leafs from having a shutout win by scoring a goal in the last second of the game to make it 2-1, but it was too late for the Bruins to come back, and they would be forced to play a Game 7 in the first round, just like last season against the Florida Panthers.
Game 7 will be taking place at TD Garden on Saturday night as the Bruins will look to avoid what happened last season with a loss to the Panthers in Game 7 after being up 3-1. Puck drop will be at 8:00 pm on ABC/ESPN+.
