The New England Revoltuon hosted Inter Miami FC at Gillette Stadium in Foxoboro, MA on Saturday. This was the first game that soccer legend Lionel Messi would be coming to New England as a member of the MLS, so the stadium was packed with fans looking to see him in action.
To be precise, 65,612 fans filled Gillette Stadium Saturday night to see the soccer superstar out on the pitch. It was the second biggest crowd – for a soccer game – in Gillette Stadium history.
New England scored the opening goal in the opening minute of the match as Tomás Chancalay kicked one through the net to give the Revs an early 1-0 lead. The goal came just 37 seconds in, the fastest opening goal since Charles Gil scored a goal in the first minute in a match against Atlanta on May 31, 2023.
It was all Messi from then on out as he scored two goals – the first in the 32nd minute and the second in the 68th – and assisted on the other two as Inter Miami defeated the Revs 4-1.
This was Messi’s second time playing at Gillette Stadium with Inter Miami since joining the team last season.
The Revs will travel to take on Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field in Chicago on Saturday night. The match is scheduled to begin at 8:30 p.m. ET.
