The Boston Bruins played the Toronto Maple Leafs on Saturday night in Toronto for Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. The Bruins took the last game 4-2 on Wednesday from a two-goal game from Brad Marchand being the difference.
The Bruins opened up the scored with a goal from James van Riemsdyk, as it was his first playoff goal for the Bruins, and off an assist by Mason Lohrei in the first period. Then, in the second period, the Bruins extended their lead to 3-0 from goals from Marchand and David Pastrnak.
Marchand’s goal broke the Bruins playoff record with his 56th in his career, as Cam Neely previously held the record with 55 goals. This was also Marchand’s 12th goal at the Scotiabank Arena, which ties the most by a player in an opposing arena in the playoffs which was held by Bryan Trottier, who scored the same number in the Capital Centre from 1976-1994.
Mitch Marner broke the shut out by Jeremy Swayman as he scored the only goal that the Maple Leafs scored in the third period, as the Bruins would go on to win 3-1, and are now one game away from going into the next round, something that they were not able to do last season.
