The Boston Bruins faced off against the Carolina Hurricanes at TD Garden on Tuesday night. The Bruins were coming off a four-game winning streak while the Canes were on a two-game winning streak after losing to the Bruins last Thursday.
Both teams are in the thick of things in the playoff picture. The Bruins entered the game at second place in the Eastern conference behind the New York Rangers while the Canes were third in the conference, and second in the Metropolitan division with 105 points, three points ahead of the Florida Panthers for the Conference playoffs.
Entering this game, both the Canes and Bruins had split the season series to this point, with a win last Thursday for the Bruins, and the Hurricanes 3-2 victory on Jan. 24.
The first period had no goals, and the only highlight of note was when Charlie McAvoy and Jake Guentzel got into it late into the period, which caused a 4-on-4 power play.
The second period was a bang for the Canes, as Andrei Svechnikov had a lacrosse style goal that had to be looked at a second time after initially not being a goal. Teuvo Teravainen had the second goal for the Canes before McAvoy would try to answer back for the Bruins to cut the deficit to 2-1 at the end of the first period.
However, the Bruins had nothing to show for their efforts in the third period, as they would not score another one for the rest of the game and allowed two goals from Guentzel and Seth Jarvis to make it a 4-1 victory for Carolina.
Jeremy Swayman was in net for the Bruins, where he turned away 22 on 26 shots, while the Hurricanes had Pyotr Kochetkov as their netminder as he had 22 saves on 23 shots.
The next game for the Bruins will be on Saturday when they travel to PPG Paints Arena in Pittsburgh to face off against the Pittsburgh Penguins for a 8 pm puck drop on ABC or ESPN+.
