Former New England Patriots offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien is finalizing a deal to become the next head coach of the Boston College Eagles, per SB Nation’s BC Interruption. O’Brien had originally agreed to become the offensive coordinator at Ohio State after being fired by the Patriots.

The move comes just days after former Boston College head coach Jeff Hafley left the school to become the defensive coordinator for the Green Bay Packers. The Boston Globe originally reported that Paul Rhoads would be the interim coach in Hafley’s place as BC searched for a more permanent coach.

The Eagles finished with a 6-6 record in 2023 and defeated Southern Methodist University (SMU) in the Fenway Bowl back on Dec. 28. Hafley stepped down to join the Packers last week.

Boston College has said that they will continue to search for their next head coach, but according to multiple reports, O’Brien could be named the new head coach by as early as Wednesday.
