Rachel Banham, the Assistant Coach and the Director of Quality Control for the University of Minnesota Women’s Basketball team, is returning to the Connecticut Sun.
The Sun announced on Thursday that Banham has signed with the team on a two-year deal.
“We are excited to welcome Rachel back to Connecticut,” remarked Sun General Manager Darius Taylor. “Her experience, sharp-shooting and versatility provides depth to our backcourt. She will be a tremendous fit with our team and organization.”
Banham, was originally drafted with the fourth overall pick by Connecticut in 2016 and has spent the last four seasons with Minnesota.
In the 2023 season, Banham averaged 5.5 points, 1.0 rebound and 1.7 assists, while shooting 40.2% from behind the arc for the Lynx. Banham dropped a season-high 18 points, nailing five triples, against Indiana on August 10.
On Wednesday the Sun announced that they acquired Tiffany Mitchell, and also got the No. 19 overall pick in the 2024 WNBA Draft from the Minnesota Lynx
Banham, a Minnesota native began her professional career with the Connecticut Sun where she played her first four seasons in the WNBA. She’s known for her shooting prowess and currently sits at 16th all-time in three-point field goals made (81) in the franchise record books.
The Sun tip off the 2024 season on Tuesday, May 14 against the Indiana Fever at 8:00 PM EST at Mohegan Sun Arena.
