The Merrimack Warriors sitting at an even 9-9 hosted the Wagner Seahawks in Northeast conference action. Wagner with a record of 8-7 looks to defeat their conference rivals and propel themselves to first in the Northeast division.
Producing a game high 26 points Merrimack’s Jacob O’Connell pushed the Warriors into a seven-point lead at halftime with the score of 38-31. Merrimack, trying to push past .500, shot a deplorable one for 18 from three point line.
Poor shooting by Merrimack coupled with an 11 to two run by the Seahawks, forged Wagner forward. Wagner’s Melvin Council Jr with a 13 rebound and 15 point double double, sank two free throws down the stretch to solidify Wagner 71-65 win.
The Seahawks are now tied for first in the Northeast conference with the 3-1 record. Both teams have their next games Sunday at 2:00 p.m., Wagner traveling to Sacred Heart and Merrimack hosting Stonehill.
Desperately searching to dominate the Northeast, both teams conveniently play each other in two games on Sunday 1/25 at 7:00 p.m. Wagner’s victory will be met with disdain as Merrimack seeks revenge.
