On Thursday morning a second suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of Randy Armando Melendez Jr., 19, of Southbridge and the shooting of a second victim, has been arrested.

Massachusetts State Police confirmed late Thursday afternoon that Kevin Rodriguez, 18, of Lawrence, Massachusetts was arrested at an apartment in Brooklyn, NY., and has been charged with unlawful possession of a firearm and armed assault with intent to murder. 

Worcester State University Police early Saturday morning around 2:30 a.m. responded to a shooting scene after receiving a 911 call. Upon arrival officers located Randy Armando Melendez Jr. 19, of Southbridge and a 21-year-old man who were both shot.

Melendez was transported to an area hospital where he succumbed to his injuries. The 21-year-old man, Massachusetts State Police said “Appears to have non life-threatening injuries.”

Investigators said it started early Saturday morning when a fight broke out near a parking garage on campus. Police said none of the people involved were Worcester State students.

This is the second arrest in the case. Eighteen-year-old Richard Nieves was arrested Monday on a gun charge.
