New England Patriots Drop 1-5 After 21-17 Loss to Las Vegas Raiders

The New England Patriots were in Las Vegas to take on the Raiders at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas, NV on Sunday afternoon. The Patriots were coming off a 34-0 shutout loss at home to the New Orleans Saints.

The other big story for this game came on the media side as Jim Nantz and Tony Romo, who will call Super Bowl LVIII at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas on Feb. 11, 2024, were on the call for this game as sort of a test run for CBS.

The Raiders got on the board first with a field goal on their first drive, which took more than half of the first quarter. They also scored the game’s first touchdown as former Patriots Jimmy Garappolo and Jakobi Meyers hooked up for a score, giving the Raiders a 10-0 lead.

Chad Ryland got New England on the board with a 43-yard field goal, but Mac Jones overthrew Mike Giesicki and was intercepted on the next Patriots drive deep inside Raiders territory. Vegas would capitalize with a field to take a 13-3 lead at halftime.

Garappolo would be transported to a hospital at the end of the half and was ruled out for the remainder of the game.

Ezekiel Elliot scored on the Patriots first drive of the second half to close the gap to 13-10. A Raiders field goal with under four minutes left in the third made it a 16-10 game. Vegas would kick their fourth field goal to take a 19-10 lead with 13:03 left in the game.

Rhamonde Stevenson scored a touchdown with 3:33 left to make the score 19-17. They would force and punt and got the ball back with over two minutes left, but Jones was sacked in the end zone for a safety, and the Raiders ran out the clock for a 21-17 victory.

The Patriots will head back home next Sunday to host their AFC East rival in the Buffalo Bills. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. ET.
