The New England Revolution clinched a berth in the Audi 2023 MLS Cup Playoffs which is the team’s fourth trip to the postseason in five years.
Interim Head Coach Clint Peay said postgame “That’s the main goal, to get in the playoffs and give yourself a chance, but we’re not satisfied. We want to get the highest seed that we can possibly have to secure home field advantage in the playoffs to the best of our ability. We still have a couple of tough games to go and that’s going to be our goal moving forward.”
The Revolution clinched their spot with a 2-2 draw against the Chicago Fire FC. New England came from behind as they were down 2-1 before tying it up in a draw.
Tomas Chancalay and Carles Gil provided scoring while Earl Edwards Jr made five saves. Chancalay scored in the 16th minute to give the Revolution a 1-0 lead.
Brian Gutierrez then quickly responded scoring in the 18th minute. Chicago then went up a goal when Gaston Gimenez scored in the 54th minute. Gil tied it up in the 59th minute bringing the game to the final score of 2-2.
Interim Coach Peay also spoke postgame on coming from behind to earn a draw
“We had some formation tweaks and then I think in terms of how we want to carry forward, it’d be more offensive and connected. It’s important to be competitive on the road and I thought we were that tonight. We’re looking forward to moving forward and doing the best we can to secure home field advantage in the playoffs.”
The New England Revolution will take on Charlotte FC on September 30 beginning at 7:30PM EST.
