High School Football Game Ends With 16-Year-Old Dead, Others Shot In Choctaw, Oklahoma

A high school football game at Bill Jensen Field in Choctaw, Oklahoma, Friday night ended with a 16-year-old dead, a 42-year-old shot in the chest, a 15-year-old female also shot, and Choctaw Police said others were injured.

It was in the third quarter between Del City and Choctaw when multiple gunshots were fired from the visitor’s side of the stadium. Players and officials ran off the field, and others laid down on the field and in the stands.

Choctaw Police Chief Kelly Marshall said the shots were fired by an unknown number of individuals at the game, and at least one shot during the exchange was fired by an off-duty Del City police officer.

Chief Marshall said “It is believed an argument started between at least two males which led to the shooting.”

The 16-year-old male who was shot, Chief Marshall said “He is not a student of either Choctaw or the Del City school system.”

A Choctaw Police Officer, Chief Marshall Said “Who is a trained EMT responded to the 16-year-old immediately and began life saving efforts.”

The 42-year-old male, Chief Marshall said “Was transported to OU Trauma and was in surgery most of the night. It is my understanding he is now in ICU but stable condition.”

Choctaw Safety Coordinator Steve Keiffer and his brother, Chief Marshall said “Who is a trauma surgeon began life saving efforts on the 42-year-old who had sustained the gun shot to his chest.”

The 15-year-old girl who was shot, Chief Marshall said was shot in her thigh, was treated and released.

Two other females, Chief Marshall said “Believed to be students were injured trying to leave the area sustaining broken wrists and a broken leg.”

Chief Marshall confirmed “Investigators have been given a description of a tall Black male wearing red sweatpants as a person of interest.”

Chief Marshall also confirmed “Two guns and eight rounds were recovered at the scene.”
