Wednesday afternoon was a beautiful day for baseball in Worcester, and sitting in the stands the energy of the fans was electric as the Worcester Red Sox played game two of their 6-game series against the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-New York Yankees.

Worcester lost to the RailRiders the night before, 5-6. But Worcester was hungry to get back into the win column and grabbed an 8-1 W.

This midweek midday game kicked off with David Hamilton in the bottom of the third hitting his 14th homer of the season 389 feet. The exit velocity was 106.5 mph and and the launch angle was 26 degrees. Fitzgerald scores and Zimmer also scored to put Worcester on top 0-3. 

In the bottom of the fifth, Worcester made this a 0-7 ballgame with Wilyer Abreu hitting an 84.6 mph slider 389 feet to record his 21st homer of the season. The exit velocity was 99.4 mph and the launch angle was 35 degrees. Hamilton and Dalbec both scored. Stephen Scott, also in the bottom of the fifth, hit an 84.2 mph slider 

 solo homers (12) on a fly ball to right center field.

The RailRiders went five scoreless innings and then got into this game at the top of the fifth with Wilmer Difo hitting 90.9 mph changeup 388 feet. The exit velocity was 99.1 mph and the launch angle was 29 degrees.

In the bottom of the seventh Worcester made this a 1-8 game with Wilyer Abreu scoring. 

Wilyer Abreu in his 82nd game played this season recorded his 21st homer of the season. Abreu also recorded his 63rd run, 77th hit and 62nd RBI in Wednesday afternoon’s win.

Wednesday was David Hamilton’s 81st game this season. Hamilton recorded his 14 homer, 60th run, 76th hit and his 43rd RBI this season. 

The Worcester Red Sox will continue their thirteen-game homestand on Thursday, playing game three of their six-game series with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-New York Yankees. First pitch is scheduled for 6:45 PM.
