Worcester Red Sox Win Midday Game 5-4 Against Buffalo Bisons

On Wednesday the Worcester Red Sox continued their seven-game series with the Buffalo Bisons at Polar Park in Worcester. The WooSox are the owners of two straight against Buffalo hitting three homers in their midweek midday 5–4 win.
In the bottom of the first Wilyer Abreu recoded his 15th homer of the season on a fly ball 405 feet to right center field. Ceddanne Rafaela also scored to put Worcester on top 0-2.
Bottom of the second and Nick Sogard hit the second bomb of the game for Worcester on a fly ball 401 feet to right field to extend Worcester’s lead 0-3.
In the bottom of the fourth, the third bomb of the game was launched by Stephen Scott on a fly ball 451 feet to right center field and Worcester was out front 0-4.
After five scoreless innings the Bisons got into the game at the top of the sixth. First, Ernie Clement recorded his 14th double on a fly ball 397 feet to center. Rafael Lantigua scored to make it a 1-4 game. Then Spencer Horwitz doubled on a sharp line drive to left fielder Bradley Zimmer, and Ernie Clement scored to make it a 2-4 game.
At the top of the seventh the Bisons made this a 4-4 game with Rafael Lantigua hitting a single and Cam Eden scoring. But in the bottom of the seventh Worcester pulled away from Buffalo to make it a 4-5 game with Wilyer Abreu hitting a single on a pop up and Bradley Zimmer scored.
Worcester and Buffalo will continue this seven game series Thursday night with the first pitch at Polar Park scheduled for 6:45 PM.
Thursday night of course is Throwback Thursday, and Baseball Hall of Famer Wade Boggs will be at Polar Park signing autographs and taking photos with fans in the Sherwood’s Diner during innings 3 through 6.
It is also Charlton Town Takeover Thursday night and the Chevy Youth Clinic at Polar Park is at 10 a.m.
During Wednesday’s game the Red Sox announced that Kyle Barraclough was selected to the active Major League roster from Worcester, and will wear number 44. Brandon Walter was recalled from Worcester, and Nick Robertson was optioned to Worcester following Tuesday night’s game against the Kansas City Royals.
