The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Lehigh Valley Ironpigs in the final game of the series at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Sunday afternoon. They would clinch third place in the IL East heading into the second half of the season.
The WooSox were hitting early and often and took a 5-0 lead after three innings. In the fifth, both Stephen Scott and Nick Sogard hit two-run homers to bring the lead to 9-1.
Lehigh Valley would add another run, but it wasn’t enough as the Red Sox went on to win by the final score of 9-2. They finish the first half of the season in third place in the IL East division.
They will have the next two days off before beginning the second half of the season on the road as they will take on the Buffalo Bisons.
