After defeating the Yankees 15-5 on Friday and the postponement of Saturday, the Red Sox and Yankees faced off in a doubleheader.
Boston came out on top winning both games with scores of 6-2 and 4-1. Nick Pevatta and Brayan Bello picked up the wins pitching for the Red Sox.
In game 1 the Yankees started the game with a two run home run from Gleyber Torres. New York would hold a two run lead until the bottom of the fifth.
In the bottom of the fifth both Alex Verdugo and Justin Turner scored, tying up the game at two runs a piece. Rafael Devers scored Verdugo when he grounded out and Adam Duvall scored Turner hitting a single.
Boston would then rally in the bottom of the sixth scoring three runs and take a 5-2 lead. Enrique Hernandez scored the first run after hitting a single Connor Wong hit a double that brought him around.
Alex Verdugo then hit a double which scored Wong before Verdugo himself scored from a Justin Turner single.
Masataka Yoshida hit a triple in the bottom of the seventh then scored on a balk which was Boston’s sixth and final run of the game.
Like Game 1 the start of Game 2 saw New York score all their runs in the first inning.
This time Anthony Russo hit a groundout that scored Jake Bauers. This was the Yankees sole run of Game 2.
Enrique Hernandez hit a double in the bottom of the second which scored Rafael Devers tying the game up at 1 run a piece.
Boston then took a 2-1 lead in the bottom of the fourth due to catcher interference which scored Alex Verdugo. Verdugo hit a single to lead off the bottom of the fourth.
The Red Soxs extended their lead in the bottom of the fifth with Jalen Duran and Alex Verdugo scoring on a Tristan Cass double.
Boston completed the series sweep and are now two games behind the Yankees.
Boston now takes on the Minnesota Twins in a four game series in Minnesota.
