The Red Sox Sunday morning moved Chris Murphy to the club’s 27th man for Sunday’s doubleheader against the New York Yankees at Fenway Park.

In a statement Sunday morning the Sox said, “Per Major League Baseball rules, both teams are permitted to add an extra player for today’s games.”

Tanner Houck, who sustained a facial fracture after being struck just under his right eye by a line drive from the New York Yankees’ Kyle Higashioka on Friday night, is on the 15-Day Injured List.

The Sox also confirmed that Kaleb Ort has been recalled from Triple-A Worcester.

The Sox on Sunday will host the Yankees for a doubleheader at Fenway after Saturday’s game two of the four game series was postponed due to weather conditions in Boston.

In game one of this series the Sox defeated the Yankees 15-5. It was the tenth game this season the Sox won with ten or more runs. The Sox had two runs in the bottom of the first and a run in the bottom of the second before dominating the bottom of the third with six runs, and grabbing three more runs in the bottom of the fourth. After a scoreless fifth, the Sox grabbed their fourteenth run in the bottom of the sixth and grabbed their fifteenth run of the game in the bottom of the eighth.

Sunday’s doubleheader will be the third doubleheader between the Sox and Yankees since July 16, 2017, and the Sox have only won one of those games (7/16/17).

The Sox have won three of their first four games vs. the Yankees this season, and three of those four meetings have been decided by one or two runs.

Friday night’s 15-5 win was Boston’s largest margin of victory against the Yankees since July 25, 2019 when the Sox won 19-3 at Fenway Park.

Prior to Friday, each of the last 12 games between BOS and NYY had been decided by 3 runs or fewer.

The Sox are 5-3 in their last eight home games against the Yankees.

RHP Kaleb Ort will start game one for the Sox and RHP Brayan Bello will start game two.

Game one Sunday will be on NESN, and game two will be on ESPN. You can listen to the game as always on WEEI 93.7 FM.
