The Connecticut Sun went head to head with the Dallas Wings in regular season action on Sunday afternoon.
Tyasha Harris would face off against her old team which she played with for three years pregame she said “There are no huge emotions obviously I have friends on that team but it’s just another game.”
Harris would play for 3 minutes against her old team scoring 2 points and tallying a rebound and one assist.
Coach Stephanie White would also speak pregame when talking about keys to the game she would emphasize great offense to stop the transition game and great defense.
Coach Latrica Trammell would have a similar statement pregame when referring to defense also saying “we are the second highest scoring team in the league so we need to execute on both sides of the ball”.
White was awarded Coach of the Month for the Suns hot start of 4-1 during the month of May.That 4-1 start is a franchise record for a Connecticut Sun coach in his or her debut.
The Sun would take an early lead after one quarter going up 23-13. DewWanna Bonner would score 8 of those 23 points which included a wild and 1 three pointer. Postgame Bonner said “Thank God it went in”
Bonner would have 22 points which led the Sun with 4 rebounds and 3 assists.
The Sun would extend their lead going into halftime from 10 to 14. Brionna Jones would lead all scorers with 13 points as the Sun were up 44-30 at the half.
Jones, the former sixth woman of the year, would finish the night with 21 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists.
The Wings would shorten the lead from 14 to 11 outsourcing the Sun by 3 points in the third quarter. Satou Sabally would lead the Wings with 16 points through the first three quarters.
Sabally ended the game with 26 points which led all scorers. Sabally would also grab 14 rebounds which led all players.
The Sun would close out the game and would deny the Wings of a win in their comeback attempt. Connecticut is undefeated at home and improves to 6-1.
Alyssa Thomas coming off a record breaking performance would have a double double scoring 13 points and 10 rebounds. Thomas would nearly achieve a triple double with 6 assists.This was Thomas’s sixth double double of the season.
The Western Conference Player of the Month Arike Ogunbowale would have a cold day scoring 8 points which is below her 23 point per game average.
Ogunbowale would shoot 3 for 16 from the field and go 0 for 5 from three point distance.
Jones and Bonner post game would speak on their defense effort against Ogunbowale and Natasha Howard saying “We have a great group defensively.”
Natasha Howard the third part of the Wings big three including Sabally and Ogunbowale would only score 11 points.
Howard and Ogunbowale would have season lows versus the Sun. Coach White postgame would say “We tried to make everything hard for them catches and shots just make them work for it.”
The Sun will stay at home to play the Las Vegas Aces in a championship rematch. These two teams will play on Tuesday and Thursday with both games scheduled to top off at 7:00 PM EST
