Worcester Red Sox Weekend Recap – 5/21

Friday night in Worcester the WooSox hosted the Lehigh Valley IronPigs (AAA-Philadelphia) for game four of a six-game set at Polar Park. 

Worcester had two runs in the bottom of the first and one run in the bottom of the second. 

After three scoreless innings, Worcester picked up their fourth run in the bottom of the sixth and grabbed their fifth run in the bottom of the eighth. 

In the bottom of the ninth, Worcester grabbed their sixth and seventh runs of the game. 

The IronPigs had three runs at the top of the first, one run at the top of the sixth, two runs at the top of the seventh and one run at the top of the ninth. 

At the end of the ninth it was a 7-7 tie game and then at the top of the tenth, the IronPigs grabbed their eighth run of the game, but then Bobby Dalbec in the bottom of the tenth hit a single to center to get David Hamilton and Niko Goodrum over the plate to get an 8-9 walk-off win. 

With Saturday’s game postponed due to weather, on Sunday the WooSox hosted the IronPigs for a doubleheader, games five and six of this six-game series. 

In game one, Worcester grabbed two runs at the bottom of the second to get out front 0-2, and then grabbed their third run of the game in the bottom of the fifth to put them on top 0-3. 

After six scoreless, the IronPigs finally got on the board with four runs at the top of the seventh to take the lead, 4-3. But in the bottom of the seventh Worcester got their fourth run of the game to tie the game 4-4, and in the bottom of the eighth, Bobby Dalbec hit a single to center to get Narcisco Crook over the plate for Worcester to get the 4-5, walk-off win. 

In game two of Sunday’s doubleheader, Worcester fell to the IronPigs 12-6.

Worcester’s first run of the game came in the bottom of the third, and then their second run came in the bottom of the fourth with Bobby Dalbec hitting his seventh homer of the season, his third homer of the series and his fourth homer in May. In the bottom of the sixth Worcester grabbed their fifth run of the game with Wilyer Abreu hitting his sixth homer of the season, and in the bottom of the seventh Worcester grabbed their sixth run of the game with Caleb Hamilton hitting his second homer of the season. 

The IronPigs picked up two runs at the top of the first, one run at the top of the third, eight runs at the top of the fourth, and one run at the top of the fifth.

This weekend, Worcester had 103 at bats, 20 runs, 35 hits and 20 RBI
