The Boston Red Sox after winning eight games in a row came into tonight’s matchup versus the Atlanta Braves losing two straight games.
The Red Sox would win the game 5-2 and split the two game series with the Braves.
Brayan Bello would get the start for the Red Soxs. He pitched six innings allowing six hits, two runs, and one home run.
Bello would get his second win of the season and now has a season record of 2-1 as a pitcher.
Dylan Lee would get the start for the Braves but would only pitch 2.2 innings he wouldn’t receive the loss as the loss would be given to Braves Reliever A.J Minter who now holds a record of 2-4.
Boston would score first with two runs in the top of the fourth Enrique Hernandez would hit a single that would score Alex Verdugo who walked to lead off the inning.
After Hernandez, Jarren Duran would hit a single which scored Justin Turner to give Boston a 2-0 lead. Turner hit a single to get on base after Verdugo walked to begin the fourth inning.
Atlanta would answer back in the bottom of the six as Ronald Acuña Jr would hit a home run to lead off the sixth inning. This would be Acuña Jr’s seventh home run of the season.
After Acuña Jr Austin Riley would hit a single which he later scored after Eddie Rosario also hit a single which he tried to turn into a double and got caught at second.
The Red Sox would score again the next inning with Duran and Tristan Casas walking to begin the seventh inning. Duran would steal his sixth base of the season before Casas was walked.
Duran would later score as Raimel Tapia would hit a double.
Boston would add two more runs in the top of the ninth with Duran hitting his twelfth double of the season before Casas hit his digits homer run which gave the Red Sox a 5-2 lead.
In the bottom of the ninth Kenley Jansen would come in and get the save. For Jansen this would be his ninth save of the season and his 400th of his career.
Jansen became the seventh pitcher to ever reach 400 saves. Jansen will join Mariano Rivera (652 saves), Trevor Hoffman (601), Lee Smith (478), Francisco Rodríguez (437), John Franco (424) and Billy Wagner (422) in the 400-save club.
The Red Soxs improve to 22-16 which is third in the American League East. The Braves fall to 25-12 which is still the best record in the National League.
Boston will have Thursday off before playing six straight home games which begins with a three game series against the Cardinals.
