The Worcester Red Sox hosted the Columbus Clippers at Polar Park in Worcester, MA on Wednesday afternoon. The WooSox were coming off a 10-3 loss to the Clippers on Tuesday night. Bryan Pata took the mound for Worcester.
After Pata got out of a bases-loaded jam in the top of the first, the Red Sox scored the first run in the bottom of the second inning as Wilyer Abreu scored on an RBI groundout from Caleb Hamilton. Nick Sogard doubled later in the inning, allowing Niko Goodrum to score the second run.
David Hamilton homered in the third inning, making the score 3-0. Pata was pulled in the top of the fourth after loading the bases, hitting three batters with pitches. Four pitches in, new pitcher Jake Faria allowed a grand slam off the bat of Bo Naylor, making the score 5-3 in favor of Columbus.
Finding themselves down 8-3, the WooSox added two in the bottom of the sixth inning to make it a three-point game heading into the seventh inning.
Richie Palasios would hit a two-run double in the top of the ninth, giving the Clippers the score they’d win by, 10-5. These two teams will face off again tomorrow night at Polar Park with first pitch set for 6:45 p.m. ET.
