New England Patriots Hire Bill O’Brien as Offensive Coordinator

By Stephen Ur III –

The New England Patriots have hired Alabama offensive coordinator Bill O’Brien to the same position, per multiple reports. O’Brien formerly served as the Patriots offensive coordinator from 2009-2011 before becoming the head coach at Penn State and then the Houston Texans.

Former defensive coordinator Matt Patricia and special teams coordinator Joe Judge, both former head coaches themselves, called plays for the Patriots offense in 2022. They finished ranked in the bottom half of every statistical category, including dead last in red zone percentage (42.22 percent).

I’m addition, head coach Bill Belichick has announced that he will return to the team for his 24th season under the helm. The Patriots are working towards a long-term deal with assistant head coach Jerod Mayo, although a deal hasn’t been agreed to as of now.
