On Sunday, the New England Patriots traveled to Green Bay for a week four matchup with the Green Bay Packers. The last time these two teams met was at Gillette Stadium on Nov. 4, 2018, and the Patriots won that matchup 31-17.
28 years ago on this day in 1994, the Patriots and Packers met at Foxboro Stadium and the Patriots won that matchup 17-16. That was also the Patriots first regular season home victory under Robert Kraft.
The last time the Patriots traveled to Green Bay was on Nov. 30, 2014, and lost that matchup 26-21. That was the team’s last loss of that season en route to the Super Bowl XLIX title.
In today’s matchup, with a 24-27 loss to the Packers, the Patriots are now 1-3 at Lambeau Field.
Earlier this week Packers Quarterback Aaron Rodgers talking about Sunday’s game said “You prepare for a lot of things, but everything could change in the game or before the game or at halftime or the third quarter or the fourth quarter.” Well that was defined in this game with five lead changes and two ties that led to overtime.
In the first quarter the Patriots made this a 3-0 game with Nick Folk making a 37 yards field goal.
In the second quarter with thirteen minutes on the clock, Christian Watson got the first touchdown of the game and the kick by Crosby was good to put the Green Bay Packers on top 3-7. But with just thirteen second remaining on the clock, Jack Jones got his interception and then took it forty yards to get New England their first touchdown of the game. The kick by Folk was good to put New England on top 10-7 going into the half.
In the third quarter with 9:20 on the clock, the Packers made this a 10-14 game with Aaron Rodgers connecting with Robert Tonyan to get the second Packers touchdown of this game, and the kick by Crosby was good. But 4:52 on the clock in the third, Bailey Zappe connected with DeVante Parker to get his first touchdown pass of the season and first touchdown pass this season by a rookie in the NFL. The extra point attempt by Folk was good to put New England on top 17-14. Down to just five seconds remaining in the third and Mason Crosby made a field goal to make this a 17-17 game.
In the fourth quarter with 11:14 on the clock, Damien Harris from five yards out got in for the New England touchdown. The kick by Folk was good to make it a 24-17 game. With 6:14 to go in the fourth, Aaron Rodgers connected with Romeo Doubs for his 500th NFL touchdown pass. The kick by Crosby was good to make it a 24-24 game.
In overtime the Green Bay Packers won this game 24-27 with a 31 yard field goal by Mason Crosby.
Matthew Judon, with just one sack on Sunday has now registered a sack in each of the first four games of the season to become just the second New England player to start a season with at least one sack in each of the first four games to start a season. Patriots and Pro Football Hall of Famer Andre Tippett began the 1986 season with one sack in each of the first four games.
