Thursday night the Worcester Red Sox had their third meeting with the 1st-place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (AAA-New York Yankees) and claimed a 5-3 win. It was the first win for Worcester after losing their last four, two against the IronPigs and the first two of their six-game series in Moosic, PA.
Ryan LaMarre opened up this game with a single in the bottom of the first to drive in Chris Owings and put the RailRiders on top 0-1.
Bottom of the second, Chad Bell hit his third double for the season to drive in Armando Alvarez and put the RailRiders on top 0-2.
After four scoreless innings, at the top of the fifth Nick Sogard got Worcester into this game with a single to drive in Ryan Fitzgerald and Pedro Castellanos to make this a 2-2 ballgame.
After a scoreless sixth, top of the seventh Jarren Duran made this a 4-2 ballgame with his fifteenth double of the season to help get Jaylin Davis and Pedro Castellanos over the plate. Duran, he made it over the plate after stealing home to put Worcester on top 5-2.
Bottom of the eighth, Michael Beltre made it over the plate for the RailRiders to make it a 5-3 game.
Worcester and the RailRiders play three more games in this six-game set, Friday night at 6:35 pm, Saturday at 6:05 pm, and Sunday at 1:05 pm. Worcester has 12 games remaining this season (6 on the road and 6 at home).
