Mississippi Hiker Found Dead In New Hampshire

Thursday morning at around 11:30 AM, the Norwich, Vermont Police Department received a call of a missing hiker who had been staying at a hostel near Route 5 and the Connecticut River.

New Hampshire State Police said “An initial investigation revealed the hiker had been last seen at approximately 7:30 PM on Wednesday, September 7, 2022. Further investigation, in cooperation with the Hanover, NH Police Department, determined the hiker had been last seen headed toward the Connecticut River on the Vermont side.

During a search of the river by the Hanover, NH Fire Department and NH Fish and Game Department, the missing hiker, who has been identified as Joseph C. Harvey, 45, of Prentiss, Mississippi was located in the water. Harvey was pronounced deceased on scene.

New Hampshire State Police said “The death is not considered suspicious.”
