Weekend Sports – New England Revolution, Minor League Ball And Boxer Richard Rivera

Saturday night, the New England Revolution fell to CF Montreal, 4-0. New England returns home to begin a three-game homestand in Foxborough on Sunday, August 28 against the LA Galaxy. 

At Polar Park in Worcester, Saturday night, the WooSox fell to the Rochester Red Wings 1-5. Franchy Cordero was pulled from this game in the fifth. Worcester Telegram and Gazette reported that Cordero was recalled to the Boston Red Sox ahead of Sunday’s game against the Orioles. Saturday was Roberto Clemente Day at Dunkin Donuts Park in downtown Hartford. In this contest, the Hartford Yard Goats beat the New Hampshire Fisher Cats 6-4. The Yard Goats have won three straight against the Fisher Cats. The Portland Sea Dogs, after winning two against the Reading Fightin Phils, suffered a 4-3 loss Saturday.

Hartford native, Richard “Popeye The Sailor Man” Rivera suffered his first loss Saturday against Badou Jack, and now has a record of 21-1, 16 KOs. The 10 round cruiserweight fight was a split decision with scores of 96-94 (Jack), 95-94 (Rivera), 96-94 (Jack).
